Mmmm, oh holy crap, man, do I ever want this cookbook. Borders on-line did a little video interview thing (that can be found here) and showed off three different recipes, and gooooooood god, man. *salivates* Want all. Especially that broccolini salad thing. And I'm definitely going to be stealing the recipe for that brine. YUM!

Sometimes I think I want to do a cooking journal. Not a hugely intensive thing, but the occasional recipe post or cooking tip and info type thing. Because it's hugely underestimated how much a good, healthy meal can contribute to one's happiness.

In other news, holy CRAP the prices on the Farscape boxed set keep going up by leaps and bounds. I just. GAH. *weeps bitter tears of... bitterness!*

Which reminds me: [livejournal.com profile] prix_etoile? I have a proposition evil plan question to ask you.

I meant to post this stuff several days ago, but I can be selfish with mah goodies sometimes? >_>

Farscape:
FINALLY, WE WERE PROMISED AT DRAGON*CON, AND NOW THEY DELIVER: Farscape: The Complete Series!!! 88 episodes and 15 hours of bonus features on 26 discs... More special features + Amazon review ) Soooo excited! However, if you have the Starburst Editions, customers recommend you HOLD ONTO THEM! Some of the special features from those discs did not make it to this new set. There's a rather neat video interview with Ben Browder, Claudia Black, and Rockne S. O'Bannon included on the amazon webpage, too. They give us a teeeeeeeny bit of information on the webisodes (in production [EEEEE!], and take place right after the comics that are currently coming out), and it ended with possibly the best "Oh, Ben," I have ever heard from Claudia's mouth. :D!

Movies:
IRONMAN 2 TRAILER!!!! Watch it in high-def! This trailer tells you absolutely NOTHING about plot (nooooot a good sign), but you get to see lots of cool special effects! After all, since when do modern movies need a plot? Or a script? Let's see that car go boom again!

Johnny Depp explains how he picked his poison with the Mad Hatter. When he takes on a role, Johnny Depp often paints a watercolor portrait of the still-forming character to help find his face and personality. After putting the finishing touches on his painting for “Alice in Wonderland,” Depp looked down at the Mad Hatter staring back at him from the canvas and giggled. “I was thinking,” the actor said, “‘Oh my God, this one will get me fired!’” BWAAAHAHA. This was an *excellent* article.

Also, whaaaat is this? Johnny Depp is rumored to be in the new Lone Ranger movie? :O! THIS IS EXCITING!

Hubble Space Telescope Advent Calendar 2009. Keep checking this page, because every day, for the next 25 days, a new photo will be revealed here from the Hubble Space Telescope, some old and some new. God, some of these are absolutely incredible. Just... blow your mind beautiful. EXHIBIT A: How insane is this picture?! :O!

That's all for now! Time to go batten down the hatches for the great Ice and Wind Storm of 2009. -_-

Herald interview with Kiefer Sutherland. "I'm very aware of how lucky I've been. Not that my life was bad beforehand, of course, but, 24 just threw a big bucket of glitter over everything." LAWD this man is adorable. I just... yeah. 'When I met up with Kiefer Sutherland, he was immensely charming, self-effacing and relaxed. Just as you would expect of a man who's seen and lived the good, the bad and the ugly sides of Hollywood life.' ♥♥♥

So, PirateMod is having a big Easter sale. I'm sorry, but items like THIS make me go o_O

Don't forget that tonight is your last chance to purchase one of the Farscape 10th Anniversary Commemorative Shirts!

Yeah, that's all I got.

There's a lot this week, and some of the news is old, therefore I'm putting it behind a cut-tag to spare my friends page. Those of you who are interested, please clicky-clicky! ;)

Goodies and News! Farscape, Firefly, LotR, Music, Movies, etc! )

All right, this wasn't nearly as big as I intended for it to be. I ran out of time. More updates are imminent, but for now I run to catch a PLANE! Oh family visiting, oh impromptu trips away from home, how you backlog my journal so!

As of a few moments ago:
sardonicynic: You're the Nathan to my Tony!
(see: previous friends-locked post for clarification)

I? Am seriously amused by this girl.
ladyoflorien: (Random: Fifth Element Multipass)
HEY GAIS! Yesterday was a fantastic day in geek history. Why? Because it's the day when both Rockne S. O'Bannon (writer and producer for Farscape!) and John Lasseter (head of Pixar, and coincidentally the guy who heads the translation of Miyuzaki films into English) were born (in '55 and '57 respectively)! Also? ALSO?! Batman the series premiered on ABC on the SAME DAY in '66! AND in fiction it's the day HAL goes operational (in 2001: A Space Odyssey)!!!! Dudes, this should be a nationally recognized holiday! People should get Jan 12 off of work! Why is this not happening?

On a related note, it both amuses and saddens me that Hayao Miyazaki was born on the same day Momofuku Ando died (January 5th). Dudes, I can't believe it's already been a year since the great Cup O Noodles inventor died! Sheesh. Time flies. And Graham Chapman & Terry Brooks were also born on the same day (Jan 8). Geek solidarity, yo.

Farscape
I'm sorry, FARSCAPE FANS! Stop what you're doing! What I'm about to show you wins ALL: Ben Browder on Party of Five. That's right people, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT. BEN BROWDER WAS ON PARTY OF FIVE. I DID NOT KNOW THIS, UNTIL [livejournal.com profile] wordsthatfail (who rightly gets my firstborn for this) FOUND THIS PAGE. LOOK! AT THE FLANNEL! AND THE HAIR! AND THE RIDICULOUSNESS THAT IS THE 90s! There are GALLERIES, people! GALLERIES AND GALLERIES OF PICTURES OF BEN BROWDER ON PARTY OF FIVE. This? Is my new favorite page ever. Aaaaand I'm so making icons.

5-page Vanity Fair article on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. There are some good photos included. Looks like May 22 is the official release date. Here's hoping it's good, and Shia LaBeouf, bless his little heart, doesn't screw it up.

New York Entertainment: For Your Consideration: Alan Tudyk of 'Death at a Funeral' for Best Supporting Actor. Death at a Funeral, not Fun at a Funeral! Death! A very nice article about Alan. Also, um, picture of him NAKED?! O__O WHY DID I NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE?! CURSES!

Nathan Fillion Interview (for White Noise 2). I think this is old, because I remember seeing bits of the interview other places and giggling, but it deserves re-posting because HEE! NATHAN FILLION! COME READ HOW ADORABLE AND FUNNY HE IS!

EW's "Sci-fi's 25 Top Movies & TV from the Past 25 Years". Dude, this is a very comprehensive list. Quantum Leap, Futurama, ESOTSM, Firefly/Serenity, Back to the Future, ST:TNG, etc etc. Granted, they have a few bombs up there I don't agree with, and HEE, ROCK ON FARSCAPE FANS FOR PUTTING UP A FUSS! Because, seriously? You pick "Lost" over "Farscape" on a sci-fi list?! AT LEAST FARSCAPE HAD A WELL-THOUGHT-OUT AND ENGAGING PLOT. KEY WORD THERE: PLOT. *shakes head* I actually think I'm more about the 17 choices that didn't make the cut than the 25 that did, honestly...

Did anybody catch Improv Everywhere on ABC's 20/20 last Friday? I forgot to watch because the "Psych" season premier was on at the same time. They supposedly had a brief segment on IE in the opening act of the program with clips of the No Pants ride in 2004 as well as the Mp3Experiment Four from this summer.

All right, I leave you now to your own devices. This goodies post was particularly fangirly, and I apologize for that. But, hello: Me = FANGIRL. I loves the boys, yo.

Okay, this is the last BIG icon post I have. However, smaller ones are imminent... fwahaha!

I'm really not sure I understand this: Jedi Chefs. o_O I stumbled upon their site by accident when I saw a rather strange picture of Nathan Fillion in a checkered chef's hat, wielding a lightsaber. I tried to figure out the point of their madness by reading a lot more on that page than is healthy, but the point still alludes me. Jedi Chefs. O_o Riiiight. Although, Gigi Edgely? ADORABLE NO MATTER WHAT SHE DOES.

Wheee, look! SERENITY: BETTER DAYS #1--PREVIEW. 4 pages from the new Serenity comic! Wheee, background info and fun things!

You know what I love? [livejournal.com profile] riceboyart. Because only in his journal do you learn cool little things about the comic, like he drew the script on page 326 phonetically, with each one symbol standing for one phoneme. Because honestly? It made me stop and try to learn the language for a second. =D

Hey, look! I may have possibly entered another Farscape Icontest. XD Vote for me! Vote for me! Vote for me! Vote for me! (If you tell me which icons you vote for, and they happen to be mine, I will sing you the "Zaphod Beeblebrox" song from the H2G2 soundtrack. No joke. It will be good times. So go vote!)

And tomorrow, THERE WILL BE ICONS! WHOOO!
ladyoflorien: (Default)
It was 73 degrees outside today. I have no idea what's up with that. Well, I mean, global warming and the end of the world yes, but everyone knows that. All weekend long it was warm outside - now, in the middle of December. Seriously NC, what's up with that?

Dave Matthews video. This is one of the funniest things I've seen Dave do (language advisory). It's a bit lengthy, but HYSTERICAL (especially Dave's bushman impression). Dave talks about South Africa and where "Eh Hee" came from (he also jams out a bit of it), then he plays "Dancing Nancies" live. Who knew the man was so freakin' funny?

Why did it take me nearly a year to discover ScapeCast?! It's a Farscape podcast, and it is amazing. I don't think I've ever pimped it in my journal before, have I? Well I rectify that folly tonight! Go check out Scapecast if you haven't already (get the LJ feed)! The latest episode is bloody hysterical. I also pulled a little news on the webisodes from their bulletin boards that I thought I'd share. It isn't much that I didn't know already, but it's a little something for anyone who hasn't heard any details about the project: Farscape webisodes )

Gigi Edgley has also alluded to being part of the webisode project in an interview, but of course there's nothing solid to confirm that. She does have a movie premiering on the Sci Fi channel on the 15th, though, called Showdown at Area 51. Tune in at 9pm if you want to catch that.

I've started re-watching the first season of Farscape. Night before last I watched the first three episodes, and though season one has never been my favorite season of Farscape, I forget just how witty and amazing the episodes really are. I am a big fan of season three, a Crazy!John devotee, and my all time favorite episode is "Dog With Two Bones." But season one John (together with D'Argo and Zhaan) is so endearing, like a little boy in a great big toy store. Everything that happens, everything he sees, he takes so seriously at first. The way the rest of the crew react to his pop culture references and bizarre idioms at first is always hysterical. Though "I, E.T." holds one of my favorite quotes ("Kind of reminds me of Louisiana. Or Degobah. ...Degobah, where Yoda lives." "Who's Yoda?" "Just a little green guy. Trains warriors." "..Oh."), it is also one of the most aggravating episodes of the whole series. The reason? The show is so believable, the plot so well done, the science really steady, that it just bugs the heck out of me that they never explain how John and the inhabitants of the planet Moya crash-lands on are able to communicate. John has the translator microbes, so it makes sense he can understand them, but they have never made alien contact, never ventured off their planet, so how can they understand him? Ugh, inconsistencies! The Achilles Heel of science fiction! So hard for me to overlook. But you know I love my Farscape, devotedly and unfailingly. It's so well done, otherwise. So yay for rediscovering one's love for the first season (can't wait 'til I get to "PK Tech Girl!")

I've tried to hold it in for so long, but I just can't do it any longer. *looks to the left* *looks to the right* FARSCAPE IS THE BEST SCI-FI TELEVISION SHOW... IT'S EVEN BETTER THAN STAR TREK! *waits for the gasps to subside* YES! THAT'S RIGHT! I SAID IT! WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? Huh?! What are you gonna do, leave argumentative comments in my journal? WELL, I DARE YOU! Don't think I haven't thought this through! I've got a plethora of reasons to show that I'm right and you're wrong! So go ahead, make my day and leave your comment! ;)

(This post is over a week late, so if some of the news is a little outdated.... oops.)

Given the enormous size of this Goodies Post, I have decided to introduce a new format. The links and goodies will hereby be categorized alphabetically and by fandom for easier viewing and locating.

Anime
Test Your AniKnowledge Here! 70 Trivial Questions on Anime/Manga/Seiyuu! This is possibly the ultimate Anime quiz. I haven't done it yet, but I glanced over some of the questions and comments, and it looks like a really hard test. I'm excited to try my luck with it. If you fill it out, let me know your score.

Books/Comics/Graphic Novels
I really want to read the new "The Gunslinger Born" graphic novel. It's part of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series, though, and I am not a Stephen King fan. However, borders.com has pages from the novel up for viewing, and my interest is piqued. To read or not to read, that is the question...

System of a Down Drummer Opens Comic Book Store. This has got to be one of the coolest things in music news I've heard since Radiohead released their entire album on-line on a donation basis. They don't carry any Serenity/Firefly swag yet, but I have high hopes for torpedo comics...

I love XKCD. A Princess Bride joke in the middle of a h4ck3r rant? This man is brilliant. Read this guy's comic: it is gold. (also the link I posted is part 5 in a 5-part comic, so you might want to go back to part 1 to get the whole story)

Futurama
IT'S D-DAY FOR FUTURAMA! That's right, the NEW Futurama movie, "Bender's Big Score," was officially released TODAY! I've seen the movie, due to sneaky underhanded on-line downloading means (but fully intend on renting the DVD and watching the episodes when they're aired on TV, because Matt Groening deserves my money, yo), and I have to tell you guys it is AWESOME. I have missed my Futurama! So, in honor of this auspicious day follow the yellow brick link to Can't Get Enough Futurama's special page of goodies (including reviews, articles, pictures, interviews, video and audio clips)! I highly recommend checking out the links to WIRED magazine--they did a great job on the article. *sigh* Can't wait for the next movie!!!!

Lord of the Rings
Also, I've been meaning to post this for a while but keep forgetting: DM of the Rings: a comic involving both LOTR and RPG humor. It is good stuff, especially if you've ever played an RPG before. One of my favorite comics can be found here (yay for Monty Python crossovers!). I think I annoyed M when she took me to her SW RPG last time I visited because of how not invested I was in what the DM was saying. I've been playing RPGs for over 7 years now, of course I'm uninterested in what the DM is saying! To quote the author of this comic: The DM will do a lot of talking, but if he's not rolling the dice then what he's saying is probably not important. The DM is mostly just there for mocking purposes. Anyhoo, be sure you read this comic AND the notes underneath. Obviously a DM in real life, this guy follows up each comic with an amusing post about the complexities of his role as DM and the idiocy of the people he plays with. Gotta love RPGers; I think I laughed the hardest when the comments for this comic quickly degenerated into an argument over who shot first: Han Solo or Greedo. I ♥ GEEKS!

Australia, meet Middle Earth. Whoever drew this is simultaneously not doing enough with their life and one of the coolest people ever ("Middle Perth" *snortgiggle*). Click here for the direct image link.

Movies
Did anyone else know they were making an Iron Man movie? I found out about this by accident as I was surfing around IMDB yesterday. At first I was excited. Then I looked at the cast. Robert Downey Jr.?!?! Are you kidding me?! Clearly you must be kidding me, because only a complete moron would think, "Hey, you know who would make a great Tony Stark? Robert Downey Jr.!" WHAT THE HELL, MOVIE INDUSTRY?! I am also not sure how I feel about Samuel L. Jackson being cast as Nick Fury. As a rule all Samuel L. Jackson movies suck, so aside from all the other evidence this movie will be a bomb, casting Samuel L. Jackson was like giving it the kiss of death. People... please... please don't ruin all of my favorite comics, mmkay? I mean, don't you think you're hurting me enough with The Dark Knight?? *stabs Christopher Nolan* We hates you, precious! *holds back yet another overly-agitated Batman rant*

Check out http://www.cinematictitanic.com/ Why? BECAUSE THE MST3K TEAM IS BACK, BABY! That's right, all the info is right there in this page. Please give it a look and pass the link along to spread the news. I am so very very excited for this. Yay movie riffing! (and in case you miss the link, starwars.com interviews Joel)

Stargate SG-1 (even though Ben Browder and Claudia Black will always be from Farscape)
MGM's official promotion pictures and movie stills for Stargate: The Ark of Truth. If you haven't heard about the Stargate DVDs, then click here for more info, and Look! The trailer!. It still weirds me out watching SG-1 now. There are too many sci-fi fandom characters in the cast now. It's like watching Starscapefirflandromeda... *rubs temples*

Stargate super panel at Dragon*con video 1, video 2, and video 3. Videos of the cast of SG-1 speaking at their Dragon*Con panel this September (Claudia speaks in videos 1 and 3). Also, Michael Shanks talks about spoofing Farscape. Oi vey, yo. ;)

Swag (various fandoms)
IE Best Buy Polo Shirts. Inspired by the Improv Everywhere Best Buy prank. This is possibly one of the most brilliant things I've seen lately. I want one.

The Piedmont Park swag is up for pre-order at the official Dave Matthews Band store! I am so excited the concert I attended is going to be on a DVD/CD. Wheeee, I told you all in my concert review that it felt like I was "part of DMB history!" BUY THE CD... IT IS GOD AMAZING! DMB also have concert footage up at http://attblueroom.com from their "World's Loudest Pep Rally," so be sure to check that out (always worth seeing Dave perform live). AND they have opened their very own facebook account with 16 different songs available to stream. Yay DMB music!

Writer's Strike stuff

Also, this is mildly amusing. Ahh, the Dutch! Gotta love them. Does anybody know what the song is playing on this page? Because I totally dig it and want to download it. If anybody knows, please leave a comment.

Finally, I will leave you with this week's moment of zen: Something I Bet You Didn't Know! Joss Whedon co-wrote "Toy Story." Yeah, amazing isn't it? I don't know about all of you, but I'd like to keep this man paid. Anyone else? Anyone? www.unitedhollywood.com
