ladyoflorien: (Annoyed: Ouran - Get out of Renge's fand)
It's been a while since I've done one of these. Not for lack of effort or anything. I have saved goodies posts from February--FEBRUARY!--that, honestly, I'll probably post anyway for hilarity reasons. Also, just so I have notes in my journal about what happened when. Heh. Outdated news for the win, guys.

Hopefully these aren't TOO outdated (we'll ignore the fact I meant to post these a week and a half ago)...

Joss Whedon/Dr. Horrible
Guys, I want you to look closely at this screencap. No, not at the hilariously wonderful Neil Patrick Harris. Over in the window, all the way to the left. What do you see? Read more... )

Fan Videos: Dr. Horrible: The Early Years - Episode 1 and Episode 2. This kid is adorable.

More Dr. Horrible icons. I imagine these little suckers are all over the place now, but these ones were prettiful. I gives them special props. Also, there are five pages of them. So, keep yourselves busy. ;)

Also, the Captain Hammer comic rocks my socks. Seriously. While you're there, check out Sugar Shock too. ♥'s Joss.

Have any of you come to know the love of Patrick Rothfuss? If not, you must commence with reading his blog forthwith! The man, a fantasy fiction writer, is also one of the most hilarious personages I've come across in my internet meanderings. His blog is one of my few happy places. And he recently posted a review/reaction for Dr. Horrible. Read more... )

Also, Patrick Rothfuss Interviews Felicia Day Okay. I have to ask. Is Joss Whedon as cool as I think he is? Yes, he's worthy of every kind of crush you could develop, I hate to say it. He's one of the most creative people I've ever met and he has a good and true heart. A real gentleman and a pleasure to be around.

Epic Fu interview with Jed, Maurissa, and Zack. Pretty short little interview, in which they talk about a most awesome contest I fully intend on entering, if I can ever find the alleged information they promised would be on the alleged website...

And for those without iTunes, you can still watch the whole thing here. Don't worry, totally on the up-and-up. Joss gets props.

Oh, also? [ profile] jedi_bria is writing Dr. Horrible fanfic. I heart this woman with all my soul.

Chat excerpt in which Bria and I unwisely combine two fandom obsessions - Dr. Horrible and Lord of the Rings )

Sony May Infect With "Venom". Oh no. Oh no oh no oh no. Oh god NO. *facepalms*

Let me preface this by saying I have not seen The Dark Knight, nor do I have any intention whatsoever of seeing The Dark Knight, so these thoughts are completely and utterly biased. Also, going behind a cut tag for those who are easily offended. Read more... )

This sounds like an amazing movie. Why haven't I seen it in theaters or advertised??

"Cinematic Titanic: The Oozing Skull" is AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD at the low, Steve Jobsian price of $9.99! I STILL NEED TO SEE THIS! Also, I pulled this from the CT Newsletter: Read more... )

Robert Downey, Jr. Steps Up for Sherlock. Aw man. Not pleased!

Ho jeeze... am I the only one who didn't know they were making a new Green Hornet movie with Seth Rogen? Funnyman Seth Rogen is working on the screenplay for the upcoming adaptation of The Green Hornet. In addition to penning the script, Rogen will also star as millionaire publishing magnate Brit Reid and his alter ego, the crime-busting Green Hornet. Columbia Pictures plans to release the film on June 25, 2010, which is exactly two years from today. No word yet as to who will play the Green Hornet's sidekick Kato, previously played by martial arts star Bruce Lee in the 1960s television series. Rogen has expressed interest in having Stephen Chow take the role. Rogen will also serve as the film's executive producer. Taken from here.

For all lovers of National Treasure (of which there should be MANY): Are you planning another National Treasure now? We are planning it. Whether we make it or not is tricky. We will make it if we feel we're not going to embarrass ourselves by making it, which means we think we've come up with a great story and somewhere for the characters to go. Taken from here. I hope they make more [good] ones. I deeply enjoy the National Treasure franchise.

OH NO. Tom Cruise a "Top Gun" Again? *HEADDESK*

Interview: Futurama's David X. Cohen. There are some periodic flashbacks that explain a little more about things that happened [in the] first [film]. There'll be a couple instances of that in Bender's Game [due out this fall]. We explain the back story a little bit more of Nibbler and of the Professor and there will be a few explanations of things that happened. The attempt is made, at least, and I hope we pulled it off to do those things in such a way that if you didn't see them the first time, it'll just be a bonus for those people who say, "A-ha! That explains why..." WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Now all I need is to see The Beast With a Billion Backs. *headdesk*

Tiny Ninja Theater presents: Macbeth. This is the answer. The question is "what is the most awesome thing ever?!"
ladyoflorien: (Introspective: Joss Whedon Be Yourself)

Also, for the time being, it's still on-line! Go watch before that changes!
ladyoflorien: (Brilliant: FF Joss it's a word NOW)

Yes, that is Nathan Fillion in the center of the image. Yes, this is precisely as awesome as it looks. GO WATCH IT. NOW. BEFORE IT DISAPPEARS. WHICH WILL BE SOON!! I honestly think I might have watched this about six times over the last few days. ♥ ♥ ♥

ladyoflorien: (Random: Fifth Element Multipass)
HEY GAIS! Yesterday was a fantastic day in geek history. Why? Because it's the day when both Rockne S. O'Bannon (writer and producer for Farscape!) and John Lasseter (head of Pixar, and coincidentally the guy who heads the translation of Miyuzaki films into English) were born (in '55 and '57 respectively)! Also? ALSO?! Batman the series premiered on ABC on the SAME DAY in '66! AND in fiction it's the day HAL goes operational (in 2001: A Space Odyssey)!!!! Dudes, this should be a nationally recognized holiday! People should get Jan 12 off of work! Why is this not happening?

On a related note, it both amuses and saddens me that Hayao Miyazaki was born on the same day Momofuku Ando died (January 5th). Dudes, I can't believe it's already been a year since the great Cup O Noodles inventor died! Sheesh. Time flies. And Graham Chapman & Terry Brooks were also born on the same day (Jan 8). Geek solidarity, yo.

I'm sorry, FARSCAPE FANS! Stop what you're doing! What I'm about to show you wins ALL: Ben Browder on Party of Five. That's right people, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT. BEN BROWDER WAS ON PARTY OF FIVE. I DID NOT KNOW THIS, UNTIL [ profile] wordsthatfail (who rightly gets my firstborn for this) FOUND THIS PAGE. LOOK! AT THE FLANNEL! AND THE HAIR! AND THE RIDICULOUSNESS THAT IS THE 90s! There are GALLERIES, people! GALLERIES AND GALLERIES OF PICTURES OF BEN BROWDER ON PARTY OF FIVE. This? Is my new favorite page ever. Aaaaand I'm so making icons.

MMMMMM, don't show a girl on a diet candy, especially when it's shaped into PELENNOR FIELDS and HELMS DEEP! Mmmm, lord o the candy!

5-page Vanity Fair article on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. There are some good photos included. Looks like May 22 is the official release date. Here's hoping it's good, and Shia LaBeouf, bless his little heart, doesn't screw it up.

New York Entertainment: For Your Consideration: Alan Tudyk of 'Death at a Funeral' for Best Supporting Actor. Death at a Funeral, not Fun at a Funeral! Death! A very nice article about Alan. Also, um, picture of him NAKED?! O__O WHY DID I NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE?! CURSES!

Nathan Fillion Interview (for White Noise 2). I think this is old, because I remember seeing bits of the interview other places and giggling, but it deserves re-posting because HEE! NATHAN FILLION! COME READ HOW ADORABLE AND FUNNY HE IS!

EW's "Sci-fi's 25 Top Movies & TV from the Past 25 Years". Dude, this is a very comprehensive list. Quantum Leap, Futurama, ESOTSM, Firefly/Serenity, Back to the Future, ST:TNG, etc etc. Granted, they have a few bombs up there I don't agree with, and HEE, ROCK ON FARSCAPE FANS FOR PUTTING UP A FUSS! Because, seriously? You pick "Lost" over "Farscape" on a sci-fi list?! AT LEAST FARSCAPE HAD A WELL-THOUGHT-OUT AND ENGAGING PLOT. KEY WORD THERE: PLOT. *shakes head* I actually think I'm more about the 17 choices that didn't make the cut than the 25 that did, honestly...

Writer's Strike:
Why I love Joss Whedon: Joss Whedon speaks at WGA Rally in Boston (1 of 2) and Joss Whedon speaks at WGA Rally in Boston (2 of 2). This man owns my soul. Not only is this extremely informative about the writers strike, but it's delivered with humor, wit, and modesty. Also, Dragons! Heck yes!

Muppet Wars. I respect anybody who can beatbox and play the flute SIMULTANEOUSLY. Not to mention play the Muppet Show theme/Star Wars themes!

Did anybody catch Improv Everywhere on ABC's 20/20 last Friday? I forgot to watch because the "Psych" season premier was on at the same time. They supposedly had a brief segment on IE in the opening act of the program with clips of the No Pants ride in 2004 as well as the Mp3Experiment Four from this summer.

All right, I leave you now to your own devices. This goodies post was particularly fangirly, and I apologize for that. But, hello: Me = FANGIRL. I loves the boys, yo.
ladyoflorien: (Default)
Dudes. Four years ago today they released "Return of the King" in theaters. Where does time go? In honor of this auspicious day (suspicious? what day is it?), check it out: How We Became Middle Earth, yet another book! This one about NZ meets Middle Earth.

*wibbles* Whedon, Minear Creative Screenwriting Expo DVDs on sale for $12.95. I... I want! *pouts dramatically* DANG IT I HATE BEING POOR! I really want this.

Note to self: stop forgetting to buy Serenity comics, because new ones are being released and the longer you wait the more money you'll pay. Also to be released, "A Shepherd's Tale" comic featuring Book. Wheee, we get some *spoilerific* BACKSTORY on Book! Finally! I WISH THERE WAS GOING TO BE MORE FIREFLY, STUPID FOX NETWORKS! *shakes fist*

Oh, I am so all about THIS ACTION! Star Trek the tour?!?! I'm so hitting this sucker when it comes to NC. "THE TOUR will provide a unique opportunity to experience Star Trek up close and personal with sets, props and models, motion-simulator rides, merchandise and more all under one very large roof." Wheee!

Japanese Exercise Video/Language class? This... this... this is about the funniest thing I've seen in YEARS. No exaggeration. I laughed until there were tears - it's been a while since I've done that. The phrases they're reciting are so serious and ... they're doing AEROBICS?! *dies* WATCH THIS VIDEO.

50 Nerdy Things to do Before You Die. Some of these are pretty clever/hysterical. My favorite has to be #25.

I automatically endorse any comic that can make a respectable Pee Wee Herman joke. Such brilliance.

How many people have seen the new BSB music video for Helpless When She Smiles? I'm almost embarrassed to post this here. This video is so bad it's led me to declare the Boys just aren't even trying anymore. Aw what the hell, how about a black and white video filmed with a random emo girl out in the middle of nowhere? That sounds new and original. *shakes head* Like a bad Calvin Kline commercial. And I have to say I am rather annoyed that they chose this song to be their next single. Out of all the other perfectly respectable songs on their new album, they chose the freakin' rehashed syrupy overdone BALLAD. BOYS, DO I HAVE TO COME BEAT YOU?! WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU THINKING?!?! *pinches bridge of nose* Worst choice for a single EVER.

In case you haven't seen it already, The trailer for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The trailer begins playing immediately. And also, screen-captures! May 16th!!! Wheeeee!

Also, I would like to preface this link by saying I in no way endorse this movie: Trailer for The Dark Knight. Posted because you have to watch/listen to Heath Ledger's Joker and think to yourself: "...the hell just happened?!" o_O *twitch*

I give the movie 4 out of 5 stars.

GREAT movie. Like 4 9/10 out of 5 stars. ;)

Hm, I'm slightly relieved. I would have expected it to be more.

(This post is over a week late, so if some of the news is a little outdated.... oops.)

Given the enormous size of this Goodies Post, I have decided to introduce a new format. The links and goodies will hereby be categorized alphabetically and by fandom for easier viewing and locating.

Test Your AniKnowledge Here! 70 Trivial Questions on Anime/Manga/Seiyuu! This is possibly the ultimate Anime quiz. I haven't done it yet, but I glanced over some of the questions and comments, and it looks like a really hard test. I'm excited to try my luck with it. If you fill it out, let me know your score.

Books/Comics/Graphic Novels
I really want to read the new "The Gunslinger Born" graphic novel. It's part of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series, though, and I am not a Stephen King fan. However, has pages from the novel up for viewing, and my interest is piqued. To read or not to read, that is the question...

System of a Down Drummer Opens Comic Book Store. This has got to be one of the coolest things in music news I've heard since Radiohead released their entire album on-line on a donation basis. They don't carry any Serenity/Firefly swag yet, but I have high hopes for torpedo comics...

I love XKCD. A Princess Bride joke in the middle of a h4ck3r rant? This man is brilliant. Read this guy's comic: it is gold. (also the link I posted is part 5 in a 5-part comic, so you might want to go back to part 1 to get the whole story)

IT'S D-DAY FOR FUTURAMA! That's right, the NEW Futurama movie, "Bender's Big Score," was officially released TODAY! I've seen the movie, due to sneaky underhanded on-line downloading means (but fully intend on renting the DVD and watching the episodes when they're aired on TV, because Matt Groening deserves my money, yo), and I have to tell you guys it is AWESOME. I have missed my Futurama! So, in honor of this auspicious day follow the yellow brick link to Can't Get Enough Futurama's special page of goodies (including reviews, articles, pictures, interviews, video and audio clips)! I highly recommend checking out the links to WIRED magazine--they did a great job on the article. *sigh* Can't wait for the next movie!!!!

Lord of the Rings
Also, I've been meaning to post this for a while but keep forgetting: DM of the Rings: a comic involving both LOTR and RPG humor. It is good stuff, especially if you've ever played an RPG before. One of my favorite comics can be found here (yay for Monty Python crossovers!). I think I annoyed M when she took me to her SW RPG last time I visited because of how not invested I was in what the DM was saying. I've been playing RPGs for over 7 years now, of course I'm uninterested in what the DM is saying! To quote the author of this comic: The DM will do a lot of talking, but if he's not rolling the dice then what he's saying is probably not important. The DM is mostly just there for mocking purposes. Anyhoo, be sure you read this comic AND the notes underneath. Obviously a DM in real life, this guy follows up each comic with an amusing post about the complexities of his role as DM and the idiocy of the people he plays with. Gotta love RPGers; I think I laughed the hardest when the comments for this comic quickly degenerated into an argument over who shot first: Han Solo or Greedo. I ♥ GEEKS!

Australia, meet Middle Earth. Whoever drew this is simultaneously not doing enough with their life and one of the coolest people ever ("Middle Perth" *snortgiggle*). Click here for the direct image link.

Did anyone else know they were making an Iron Man movie? I found out about this by accident as I was surfing around IMDB yesterday. At first I was excited. Then I looked at the cast. Robert Downey Jr.?!?! Are you kidding me?! Clearly you must be kidding me, because only a complete moron would think, "Hey, you know who would make a great Tony Stark? Robert Downey Jr.!" WHAT THE HELL, MOVIE INDUSTRY?! I am also not sure how I feel about Samuel L. Jackson being cast as Nick Fury. As a rule all Samuel L. Jackson movies suck, so aside from all the other evidence this movie will be a bomb, casting Samuel L. Jackson was like giving it the kiss of death. People... please... please don't ruin all of my favorite comics, mmkay? I mean, don't you think you're hurting me enough with The Dark Knight?? *stabs Christopher Nolan* We hates you, precious! *holds back yet another overly-agitated Batman rant*

Check out Why? BECAUSE THE MST3K TEAM IS BACK, BABY! That's right, all the info is right there in this page. Please give it a look and pass the link along to spread the news. I am so very very excited for this. Yay movie riffing! (and in case you miss the link, interviews Joel)

Stargate SG-1 (even though Ben Browder and Claudia Black will always be from Farscape)
MGM's official promotion pictures and movie stills for Stargate: The Ark of Truth. If you haven't heard about the Stargate DVDs, then click here for more info, and Look! The trailer!. It still weirds me out watching SG-1 now. There are too many sci-fi fandom characters in the cast now. It's like watching Starscapefirflandromeda... *rubs temples*

Stargate super panel at Dragon*con video 1, video 2, and video 3. Videos of the cast of SG-1 speaking at their Dragon*Con panel this September (Claudia speaks in videos 1 and 3). Also, Michael Shanks talks about spoofing Farscape. Oi vey, yo. ;)

Swag (various fandoms)
IE Best Buy Polo Shirts. Inspired by the Improv Everywhere Best Buy prank. This is possibly one of the most brilliant things I've seen lately. I want one.

The Piedmont Park swag is up for pre-order at the official Dave Matthews Band store! I am so excited the concert I attended is going to be on a DVD/CD. Wheeee, I told you all in my concert review that it felt like I was "part of DMB history!" BUY THE CD... IT IS GOD AMAZING! DMB also have concert footage up at from their "World's Loudest Pep Rally," so be sure to check that out (always worth seeing Dave perform live). AND they have opened their very own facebook account with 16 different songs available to stream. Yay DMB music!

Writer's Strike stuff
Not the Daily Show, With Some Writer. This video captures one of the writers for The Daily Show cleverly and wittily talking about the on-going writers strike. Follow it up with another video on the writer's strike (by the writers of the Colbert Report). Support the Writers Strike:

World Clock. Has anybody else seen this? This is nuts, yo. Check out all the features, too, by clicking the buttons on the top.

Also, this is mildly amusing. Ahh, the Dutch! Gotta love them. Does anybody know what the song is playing on this page? Because I totally dig it and want to download it. If anybody knows, please leave a comment.

Finally, I will leave you with this week's moment of zen: Something I Bet You Didn't Know! Joss Whedon co-wrote "Toy Story." Yeah, amazing isn't it? I don't know about all of you, but I'd like to keep this man paid. Anyone else? Anyone?
ladyoflorien: (Silly: MP Silly Walk)
Sooo... last night was the season premier of "Heroes" and I'm probably the only person on this planet that didn't watch it. Because I never actually watched the entirety of last season in time. Oops. It's fine, I'll probably end up downloading it at some point in the future...

Watched sister's new show, "Journeyman." It was... interesting. I kind of liked it. We'll see how it goes the next couple of weeks. Also watched "Chuck," which was hysterical. I also kind of liked it. Yet another 'we'll see'. Also noteworthy to mention, Wanda Sykes is one of my new favorite actresses evah. Hysterical.

Did all you Backstreet fans know they finally released their video for "Inconsolable"? Well they did, and it's up at the new Backstreet Boys website. The new site is pretty nifty. Lots of new content. Oh, and they have the official track listing and cover art for "Unbreakable" up, too! 13 brand new songs! Ahh, can't wait. Maybe they'll finally do a dang a capella song... without Kevin? No baritone? meh. Stupid Kevin. Also, plenty of TV spots lined up for the end of October, and did anybody see this People magazine article? Interesting stuff! No wonder Nick looks good in the new video, he lost over 40lbs! Sheesh.

Hey, is anyone else reading Joss Whedon's new comic book, "Sugarshock"? This thing is brilliant. I highly recommend you stop whatever it is you're doing and read the pages up on the above website right now. No, really, now.

They've finally released the final DVD of Ergo Proxy! Today volume 6 hit the market, and let me just tell you how excited I am about this. I think I'm going to buy the box set when they release it. Regardless, I've been slavering for some good DVD-rips of the episodes to come out on a bittorrent site for EVER now, and hopefully that will happen soon. WANT DVD-RIPS, PEOPLE!

I also want the last dang episode of Hana Kimi. *sigh* Curse you, Em. Curse you.

I'm about to pimp a new band called Anuna... if you guys like Irish/Celtic music, especially that of a choral nature, then you definitely have to check these guys out. They are AMAZING. Check out the concert they did at a Borders bookstore here.

All right, I'm off to watch the season premier of House and the latest episode of Beauty and the Geek. Have I mentioned how awesome the cast for B&G is this year? It is. Awesome. I'm so addicted to this show. Can I just say the casting bits in the premier episode last week were so frickin' 'ilarious I almost peed my pants? Good stuff, good stuff. I wish I had applied for this season! ;)
