It's my first post of 2014! *fanfare*

I wouldn't get too excited, though; despite battling with an epic Real Life update since the middle of December, I still can't quite figure out where to begin. A lot has happened this winter, and I think I'm still just processing it all. So this is just for fun: some awesome stories I've read lately, that I desperately wanted to share.

1. In Gotham, the night bumps back by blueofthebay: a Galentine's fic about Oracle!Babs Gordon. There are no words for how much I love this, other than perfection. Gosh, hit on my thing for strong female characters why don't you, Laura. It's just incredibly well done.

2. And Let the Future In by ashen_key: Marvel Cinematic Universe/His Dark Materials (daemon AU). While it's a take on what each Avengers' daemon would be, it's also an absolutely brilliant piece about each member of the team, their backgrounds, and their character. The last chapter is my absolute favorite. I adore how Thor is treated in this fic (and the rest of them, for that matter). I just have a lot of feelings and need you to read it so you can have feelings, too.

3. To the End, Against Odds Uncounted by Rosa Lui: a Sarah Rogers / Steve Rogers fic that just dug inside me, pulled out my headcanon, and slapped it on the page. It's so great, you guys. The details make it come alive, it's well-researched, and hot damn did I mention my thing for strong female characters? I love Sarah Rogers, and I love this fic.

Not a fic, but I want to rustle up interest in a community on Dreamwidth called Marvelous Heroines. If you like female Marvel characters, it could use some signal boosting and activity. Particularly if you make things, like awesome fanfics about Marvel ladies. Link, link, link.

And that's all I've got for now. Expect more later, question mark? /pans out to dramatic TO BE CONTINUED music...

***SPOILERS: FEW, MOSTLY BROAD DETAILS. IF SPOILERS AND HILARITY ARE YOUR THING, I RECOMMEND Thorin Dreamboatshield: An Unexpected Hotness of Dwarves***

I'm warning you at the outset that this will primarily be a review of the new HFR;RPX technology, the actor's performances, and other filmmaking thoughts of this ilk more so than story line or plot, so if you're not in the mood for cinematography babble you might want to mosey on by.

48FPS? But what does it MEAN? )

All right, you've blithered on about filmmaking long enough, now what about the actual movie? )

Now, about Martin whats-his-name and Richard Dreamboatenshield (and the rest)... )

I can't really give the film a star rating, as I feel so much of my experience was influenced by the 3D HFR;RPX. It's too hard to disambiguate the two. I will say, however, that I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing it on DVD, and at the very least it's a solid 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.

In the grand scheme of things Jackson/Tolkien related, I would say, in order from favorite to least favorite, it falls thusly: 1) The Two Towers; 2) Fellowship of the Ring; 3) The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey; 4) Return of the King.

I have no idea how long this will be on-line before it's yanked. They made it sound very short term, but given the nature of the internet who knows, right?

THE HOBBIT TRAILER

I have to say, Saph saved the day finding this, as the page on Apple all the official sites were linking to didn't work for many. So, thank you Saph!! You are made of love.

(EEEE, IT ACTUALLY LOOKS GOOD!)

Because now we need something mindless and silly and fun to balance out all the other stuff, I'd just like to say OMG THE MUPPET MOVIE OPENS IN THEATERS TODAY I AM SO EXCITED!!!11!!!1!

Ahem. I have always loved the Muppets, all throughout childhood and up until now. I was heartbroken when pieces of the company were sold off, one by one, during the early-to-mid oughties - and subsequently gleeful when they bought back pieces, though not quite what they were. I've been dying for more Muppet media, and I have to admit I'm going to be sad now that the hype has culminated in the release date. My inbox has been filled with youtube updates of Muppet promotions, and my twitter feed (thanks to @MuppetsStudio and @ToughPigs) has been filled with fun news articles and things. I don't want it to stop! Ah well.

I'm sharing a few of my favorite Muppet/Jason Segel related things. :D

-Clips of Jason Segel hosting Saturday Night Live with special guests The Muppets! I recorded last week's SNL, and it was awesome for three reasons: 1) MUPPETS; 2) Jason Segel is actually the most adorable man that's ever lived; 3) Florence and the Machine were the musical guests. Oh, Flo. You so crazy. My favorite of the three clips is #2 (the "REALLY?!" skit), mainly because Seth looked like he was having a really good time. XD However, if you look closely in the last skit (#3), you can see Flo in the background as a Massachusetts bar patron. I'm endlessly amused by this.

-American Way Magazine scans. I've read a lot of promotionals and articles over the last several months related to this movie, but this one is my favorite. This is the one that won me over to the sheer adorability that is Jason Segel. They're high-quality scans, and it's a really wonderful read.

-Bakerella: The Muppets Cake Pops. Guys! Recipe and instructions for making 5 Muppet cake pops! I was looking forward to my nephew coming to visit me this week, and had planned on making a big deal out of spending a day goofing around in the kitchen making these cake pops before taking him to see the movie. Well, he isn't coming now, but I MIGHT MAKE THESE ANYWAY. Because they're adorable and fun. I'm definitely printing the instructions, anyway.

And, finally, this - because it's just too cute:

First order of business: May the Fourth be with you! Yes, happy Star Wars Day, everyone. XD

Who Knew? Yahoo! presents a quick little video on geek holidays.

Second order of business: I blame [livejournal.com profile] ceitfianna and [livejournal.com profile] the_croupier forever for getting me hooked on this game. I now share the torment with you. I created for a while, composing stirring symphonies of light and sound... then I decided to recreate some of my favorite compositions, and... lost. Lost forever in square grid music composition land? Le sigh.

Third order of business: I think my custom mood theme disappeared. :-/

Fourth order of business: Hey guys. I miss you. What's up?
ladyoflorien: (Introspective: Joss Whedon Be Yourself)
Right. So, now that I've had a good and epic freak out rant, let's get back to your regularly scheduled programming. No, not the radio silence! :|

SO, GUYS. I haven't actually been keeping up with my flist, because I fail. YOUR MISSION, IF YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT: update me on what I've missed! This means: links to LJ posts, or fun pictures/videos/links, or tagging me for memes, or ANYTHING. *pokes at you allllll*

OKAY, SO I'LL START! )

New Year's Eve with the Titans!‏

Hey Everyone,

Well, we know what we're doing for New Year's Eve this year, do you? We'll be performing a 3 MOVIE MARATHON live at the Keswick Theatre in Philadelphia (more specifically, Glenside, PA). Tickets go on sale this Saturday!

http://www.keswicktheatre.com/

Those of you who attended our sold-out shows at the Trocadero earlier this year needn't worry about repeats, we're coming back with 3 different movies than last time:

"War of the Insects"
"Samson and the Seven Miracles"

Then we'll ring in the New Year and after midnight,
"Frankenstein’s Castle of Freaks"

Is that some marquee or what? You can make elaborate New Year’s Eve plans that will undoubtedly turn out to be a letdown, or you can come plant your butt in one place and proceed to laugh it off with us.

Curse yoooou, geography! *shakes fist* If only I had a reasonable excuse to be in PA on New Years by myself. Harrumph.

Hey, speaking of horribly outdated things I'm posting:

Rare Star Wars Photos! These have me totally amused. Especially the third picture down from the top. I mean, seriously, what the frell? Good times, good times. I miss Mark Hamill when he still had a face.

Also, is it sad when my very first thought upon seeing Carrie Fisher playing in the snow in that one photo is, "OH GOD, I'M STUCK ON AN ICEBERG WITH MACGUYVER!!!!"?

(That's for all you Stargate fans out there.)
