A few ranting and ravings...

My home is on fire. Damn those Santa Anna winds! *shakes fist* I hope the fire doesn't reach Aunt Olga. I wonder if John and Ann have evacuated yet? My sister in law's father has no house anymore. This is not with the good. More info here for those of you who want the maps and pictures and whatnot.

I opted for Interview with the Vampire last night but did not make it past the first 15 minutes. I dunno, with the good reviews it got, not to mention coming from a highly acclaimed novel, I expected a little more than Tom Cruise draining the blood from a rat. *shudder* It's possible it got better as it went on, but I was too disgusted to find out. I switched to the last half hour of 10 Things followed by What Women Want and had a blissfully un-disgusted evening hence.

My computer does NOT, I repeat, does NOT like that new LJ theme. Okay, so it's a rather old LJ theme now, but you all know what I mean, don't you? About half my friends page switched over to it within the first few weeks of "Lookit the shiny pretty new!" And I've found it near impossible to navigate their journals since. Every time I go to post a comment (since they have their own customized comment pages now), my computer starts running slower than snot (I'm talking SLOW here, people), and as I'm writing my cursor is lagging about 4 lines behind me typing INVISIBLE WORDS. Needless to say I have to sit on my butt and wait until it catches up, because my computer is crippled until it does. Not all is lost, though. Today whilst posting in [livejournal.com profile] gypsyjr's journal I was able to read an entire page in The Two Towers, which included referring to the maps in the front of the book. Ah yes. I don't know why, but I adore those maps. There's just something about a book with maps.... yeah I'm rambling now. MAPS!

I was please though because IE did not crash (about 89% of the time it does, before or after the comment is actually posted). I made it safely back to my friends page where my computer has been running perfect ever since. So to all you who have that new journal theme, I'm not sure which but I'm gonna take a stab and say it's the MAGAZINE one, I may not comment in your journal often, because sadly my computer hates it. With a passion. So just a heads up.

In other news, I spent the last hour or so reading through the entirety of my friends page. Lots of interesting things there. Quizzes I probably will never take, but enjoyed reading. Oh, and WHEN EXACTLY DID ASHTON KUTCHER PROPOSE TO DEMI MOORE? Not like I should care, but dude. Married? Wow.

It's freezing here. It's also darker than twilight. And I have to watch the nephews all afternoon. Oh woe is me!

I shall retire now to Gabby's Corner and work some more on getting things finished. Then, if ever Bria shows up, PotC fic! Wheee!

[Edit: Sister-in-law's dad doing just fine. It appears the fire was forced to change course a hundred feet from his home. Oh yeah baby. Talk about a close shave. He said when he got in his car this morning the paint was all bubbled. At least he still has a home.]
