My night in the gilded wood...

Often the first question asked in the new year is where a person was when the clock stroke midnight on New Years Eve. People seem to like to know this for some reason. So to everyone wanting to know where I was, I'll tell them I was wandering the hills of Middle Earth. I walked the hidden paths vined through Fangorn Forest, taking in the whispering scent of earth and pine, the trees billowing words and sighs I could not tell. I walked the plains of Rohan, breathing the sweet grass air of the Riddermark, the wind speaking of magnificent steeds as their hooves sound out thunder in the yellow fields. I stood in Helms Deep, among Elven warriors, their gilded helmets reflecting the deep orange gold of torchlight and their Elvish tongues fading into the deep, damp night, free of the riddles of starlight and wholly corrupt with the evils of midnight, as the sound and feel of weaponry flew past my ears. I rode the silma stallion, wind beating sweet and cool in my face, the soft touch of his linen hair between my fingers, and the steady rhythm of his stride echoing in my thighs as he rides toward neither fury nor fray, but with all the free delight of a young colt dancing in its first winter's snow. I stood amongst Kings and men, Elves and creatures of the earth. Their tongues I spoke and felt all the warmth and solidness of their person beneath my hands. And I did all this beneath a late-spring sun, taking in all the sights and smells of new earth, a warm, scented breeze whispering through both leaf and blade with the gentleness of a salubrious land, and the ominous foreboding of things to come.

That is where I was when the new year was ushered in. Within a world more real and solid than a passing glance should allow.

Movie/TV Quote of the Day:

HARRY: I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle in your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.--from When Harry Met Sally... (1989)

Also realized while watching Titanic earlier that the reason Captain Smith looked so familiar wasn't just because of his resemblance to Alec Guinness, but because it was Bernard Hill (the same actor that portrays Theoden in TTT).

Am also rather grieved to admit that I just burst into tears after LJ lost this entire entry and I had to recreate it from memory. I sob half out of true sorrow for losing work that came straight from my heart, and half out of frustration over this being the third time LJ has lost an entry of like manner (the first time being my review of TTT opening night, and recaps after my second viewing a week later.) I am not pleased that I've stayed up until 4am trying to fix it (and probably sounding odd in my sleep-deprived state).
