Insights, Highlights, and other Epiphanies.
It's insane how much more you get out of the Fellowship of the Ring Cast Commentaries after you've seen all three movies. They're forever referring to things that happen "later on" in the series, and now that I've seen all three I know what they're eluding too. It's neat.
Oh, right. *waves sporadically* Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't updated in... well, a week exactly. I haven't had much to write about. Aside from little quips and anecdotes and whatnot that's not very interesting. Um... I'm sure I can scrounge up a few updates for you, though. Saturday we had a lunch for the bookstudy which was fun. Bob Woods told us all kinds of stories from when he just recently went down to the parks in Florida, as well as all kinds of stories from when he was a little kid. That boy was (read: is) accident prone! He's broken so many bones that he can now tell whether or not a break is clean. HA! He was pretty funny, it was a nice time. *nods*
Afterwards we went down to JD and Sandy's for a bit. I played Mario Cart with Calvin and then later Zelda with Bryan. GADS that was fun. Probably more fun than it should have been... but I must have been over-tired or sugar-high or something because I was giddy with laughter. I didn't know what I was doing in Zelda (right down to not being able to keep him walking in a straight line because I didn't know how to use the controller) so I just kept making jokes about what was happening and cracking myself, as well as the boys, up so hard that I was in tears at one point. Twas fun. We also swung by the Apple Tree furniture store and picked up my bed!
Sunday actually JD and the boys came by so we put my bed together and got it all set up! Unfortunately the frame I'm using isn't big enough so we only got my headboard up, but it looks great. And MONDAY mom and I hung up my mosquito netting! IT. IS. SO. DANG. COOL! It really looks awesome. Once I get my footboard up I'll take pictures and post them in LJ! All shall love my bedroom and despair! Hehe, it's really coming along so great, I'm happy. This is my first room, you know? It's MY room. Before it's just been like 'a room I sleep in' or not even that! 'A room I store my stuff in while I sleep in my dad's office!' So to actually have a room, my room, is awesome. It's got so much of my personality in it already, I can't wait till it's finished. But aside from that, there's not much else to update on. I saw some movies for the first time... like yesterday I saw "My Cousin Vinny" for the first time.
That movie was really cute! I love Joe Pesci, and whatever happened to Marisa Tomei? She used to be really popular. Anyway, it was cute. I'm glad I didn't rent it though, because just from watching it on TV it was OBVIOUS there was so much swearing in it I would have been totally put off. Bleh. But aside from that! :P
Um... shoot, what were the other ones? *taps fingers* Hmm, guess this is why you should make updates while things are still fresh in mind, eh? Heh. Oops. Oh I remember one... Speed. First time seeing Speed. And can I just say for the record: HAHAHAHAHAHA! Okay, I'm sorry, but every single time Keanu Reeves tries to act in a serious movie, all I can see is Bill and Ted. Every. single. time. The boy may be cute, but he has approximately the acting talent of a brick. Hehe, but it was an okay movie all things considered. *shrug*
Okay, so I'm boring, I'll admit this! The highlight of my week so far has been watching the FOTR:EE Cast Commentaries. *snort* But really, I got as far as Frodo spotting Gollum in the Mines yesterday before I had to turn it off (Two and a Half Men time ;P), and I don't think I've ever seen the Disk Two commentaries! I know I know, I've had the movie for almost two years now and I've never seen disk two cast commentaries... shameful. ;) But I really don't have any recollection of what I heard on Disk Two. *shrug* I'll probably end up watching the rest of it tomorrow or something. But you know, there's some things I really love about the cast commentary.
One, how much more SENSE it all makes now that I've seen all three movies. If you haven't watched the FOTR Cast Commentaries since RotK, I highly recommend it. I caught so much more. Also, Sean Bean's portrayal of Boromir has so much more meat to it now, what with the extended scenes in TTT and so forth. Watching the Council of Elrond was just fantastic just because of now knowing where Movie Boromir's character comes from. Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE how strong they made Arwen. She is just the most fantastic female character ever. I mean, I got book Arwen, I understood her, but Liv Tyler's portrayal is just bloody fantastic. She did a brilliant job with the character. And I forget how little time Viggo had to rehearse before his first day of filming. Three days! *shakes head* I really appreciate what an incredible job he did. ALSO! Can anyone imagine Christopher Lee as Gandalf? Hahaha, apparently he had Tolkien's blessing to one day portray Gandalf if the book was ever made into film! I'm sorry, I LOVE Christopher Lee, I love him as Sarumon, and sure he probably would have done a wonderful job as Gandalf, but I just can't PICTURE anyone else but Ian in that role. He just... I mean, can you switch the two actors around? No, Ian was just the PERFECT Gandalf. I thought that was kinda interesting.
OOH OOH OOH! I FOUND OUT THE COOLEST THING! Actually, ya'll will probably think I'm completely nuts, but... screw you. OKAY! So I went into the scene selection menu and when I stopped on scene five, Bilbo's birthday party, I was AMUSED TO DISCOVER that they play the music the band was playing! I LOVE THAT SONG! IT'S NOT ON THE SOUNDTRACK AND I JUST LOVE IT SO! So I actually paused and listened to the whole song (though they cut off the end, dang it), and I was positively giddy with happiness. I was dancing in my seat! I listened to it FOUR TIMES. And then a stroke of genius came upon me and I wondered if they'd play the hobbit drinking song during The Green Dragon scene. THEY DO! EEEE! I listened to that twice (and *cough*sangalong*cough*), then moved on to the scene I was initially looking for. And when that was over, I went back to Bilbo's birthday party scene and listened to the song for a fifth time. HEEEE! IT'S THE MOST FUN THING EVER! I DARE YA'LL DO TO IT! Yeah okay, I am a geek. Thanks.
Also, I ADORE Sean Astin. All through the cast commentaries I found myself nodding my head and shouting things like "That is SO TRUE" and "I AGREE WITH THAT SO MUCH!" etc. No one should talk so much to themselves as I do. *shakes head* But honestly, I love him. I think relating to our views on the LOTR books, Sean's opinions are the most like mine. *nods* I can't wait to see what the extended version of RotK is like. I know what so many of the extra scenes are gonna be, and I can't wait to see them. *twitches*
Also, am I the last one to hear about THIS? How brilliant is that? Christopher Lee reciting Tolkien's poems and songs? I found it in my BMG CATALOG! I almost ordered it, too, but I decided to put it on my holding list instead. It's just so fantastically cheesy I can't decide if I have to have it or if it'll embarrass me to no end when friends visit. I mean honestly, Christopher Lee singing "Tom Bombadil, bombadillo?" HECK YES. Listen to the clips. I beg you. :P
