So, interesting thing I noted tonight...

Anybody else notice that in almost every movie or TV show wherein they quote a phone number, the first three numbers are 555? I think it's like the "Hollywood area code," because every stinking time I watch something. "Oh, her number is 555-0401..."

Also found this amusing:
USA Weekend Box-Office Estimates
3/26-3/28
Rank Title
1 Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004) 30.7m 30.7m
2 Ladykillers, The (2004) 13.0m 13.0m
3 Passion of the Christ, The (2004) 12.5m 315.0m
4 Dawn of the Dead (2004) 10.3m 43.9m
5 Jersey Girl (2004) 8.3m 8.3m
6 Taking Lives (2004) 6.5m 21.7m
7 Starsky & Hutch (2004) 6.3m 76.9m
8 Hidalgo (2004) 5.4m 56.5m
9 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) 5.4m 16.7m

10 Secret Window (2004) 5.4m 40.7m

Now if 50 First Dates had just been able to hold on for ONE more week, I would have been doubly amused. Liv, Viggo (whom I always want to call Aragorn and end up having to change after the fact), Elijah, Sean. Also on the same page, new to DVD next week: MATRIX! Hah. Hugo.

555 is a generic number. There is no actual number in existance that starts with 555, so if some one were to dial a number in a movie, they'd get nothing.

I wish they hadn't changed the number in Bruce Almighty. I wanted to see who in Yuma had that number (in the theater, there was an actual, legit phone number used, but for the DVD they changed it to 555).

I would like to reitterate my comment of the 555 prefix sucking. Because it sucks. All the fun that could have been with the Bruce Almighty number. *sigh*

I wouldn't know, I was too busy being horrified and disgusted by Bruce Almighty to notice any damned phone number.

In the beginning, when his beeper is going off, the number on it was a real number. Don't remember what it was.

I actually know why they do the 555 thing. Back when television started becoming popular, and people were watching sitcoms, they used real numbers. Well people would call that number and it caused all sorts of problems. No one has a number that starts 555 so they started using that.

Exactly. But thanks for proving my point. ;)

.....

That 555 must be the "Hollywood Area Code," in other words the area code specifically for shows and movies. See?
